The Garden Club of America also affirmed Violetta's skill as a garden designer/creator when they elected to hold their annual meeting at Montgomery Place in 1936.

Both Violetta and her husband John Ross Delafield viewed this visit by hundreds of national GCA members as a high honor and they put enormous effort into making the event a success. Violetta had been a member only since 1931 but clearly distinguished herself quickly. She would go on to serve as chair of the GCA's library committee, which organized exhibitions around garden-related books and manuscripts, and as a board member from 1942-1945.
