The practice of hunting and fishing along the Sawkill continued during the 19th and 20th centuries, but proved to be a point of contention.

As the years progressed, wealthy landowners came to treasure this ravine for the recreational and spiritual pleasure it offered. In their eyes, trespassing hunters disturbed the peace and safety of this place.
